The Soccer Post is the country’s only
weekly grassroots football newspaper,
giving a voice to every player, club and
league in the country.
Football in Northern Ireland is loosely
categorised into three levels; senior,
intermediate and junior. Senior football
is an umbrella term for the professional
and semi-professional game, covering the
superstars who ply their trade in the
glamorous stadiums across the water to
the top flight in the Irish League, the
IFA Premiership.
Intermediate football is the next level,
and includes the second tier of the
Irish League, the IFA Championship, as
well as the top divisions of the Amateur
League, the Mid-Ulster League, the
Ballymena Provincial and Intermediate
League and the NI Intermediate League.
And finally junior football makes up the
rest and represents by far the most
clubs, divisions, players and officials
in the country.
Youth football meanwhile is divided into
age-groups, from mini-soccer aimed at
primary school age footballers right up
to the Development and excellence
programmes targeting mid-to-late teenage
footballers.
